Hello June

hello june
where the sun lingers, the days stretch, and the dil finally exhales.

june isn’t just the sixth month of the year.
june is an emotion, a flashback, a perfectly timed song on shuffle.
it’s mangoes for breakfast and ice cream for dinner — because why not?
it’s when time slows down just enough for you to actually notice the light filtering through your window.

hello june —
you smell like sunscreen, नींबू पानी , and that one cousin’s perfume from the शादी trip.
you taste like cold watermelon, कुल्फ़ी sticks, and भुट्टा with नमक and नींबू.
you sound like birds at 5am and the radio playing “ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si” during a surprise बारिश.

remember when june meant no school?
no alarms, no homework — just days that felt like entire lifetimes.
you’d wake up whenever your eyelids felt like cooperating, and run out to play before the sun bullied you back indoors.
those endless afternoons with ceiling fans, comic books, and that one stubborn mosquito buzzing like it paid rent.

june was —
camps, cousins, carrom, and card games.
paper boats in puddles, and stories in the dark when the power went out.
the only thing we ever truly studied in june? cloud shapes.

as grown-ups now, june feels different —
but it’s still magic.
it’s that one month that offers hope and heat in equal measure.
a reset button, disguised as longer days and shorter sleeves.

it’s when we make resolutions again —
not the january gym type, but the real ones.
read more, scroll less.
write something, even if it’s nonsense.
dance, even if badly.
call that friend. forgive that thing. finally wear the shorts.
(june doesn’t judge. june lets you be.)

somehow, june holds a little bit of everything —
the last whispers of spring, the first hints of monsoon,
a little nostalgia, a little rebellion.

it gives us time.
time to think. to pause.
to sip चाय slower. to hum louder.
to walk barefoot on grass and remember who we were before deadlines and WiFi.

it’s no coincidence june starts with children jumping into a lake in our heads —
full tilt, no hesitation, splash-first, questions later.
that’s the vibe.

this june, maybe do something reckless.
or something kind. or both.
write a letter and mail it.
start a new playlist and name it something dramatic like “मैं और मेरा june.”
go somewhere without GPS.
try sleeping without scrolling.
romanticize your life like it's a 90s indie film, even if you’re just eating cereal.

and if nothing else, at least promise yourself this —
don’t let june pass by like a page you forgot to dog-ear.

so here’s to the month that isn’t loud like december,
or intense like september,
but soft, soulful, and slightly sunburnt.

hello june.
we missed you.
अब बैठ जाओ... चाय लाते हैं .
